Who we are:

Koubou interiors is a multi-disciplinary Interior Architecture and Design company.
We produce award winning designs for our Healthcare, Commercial and Private Clients.

Gilly Craft

Gilly

Gilly trained at the Regent Academy in London where she graduated with a Distinction. Gilly founded Koubou Interiors in 2004 previously having tutored at her local college in Interior Design.

Gilly understands the importance of getting to know her clients and taking the time to understand their brief, this enables her to focus on each design individually, ensuring that a client’s likes and dislikes, along with the functionality of the space are fully taken into account.

By working closely with her team of highly skilled and qualified designers Gilly is able to manage every aspect of the design process, taking a project through from the initial design concept to completion.

Gilly is the CPD Director for the BIID, chairing the CPD committee and working with other members of Council to ensure BIID Registered Interior Designers are fully informed and qualified.

Josie Hendry

Josie

Josie is our newest member of staff. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (with honours), majoring in Interior Design, from the Art Institute of Houston.  After graduating she worked on hospital and commercial projects for HOK in Houston, where she became a LEED Accredited Professional with the US Green Building Council.  She returned to the UK and set up her own business concentrating on residential work.

Her specific areas of interest are Healthcare (particularly Design in Dementia), Commercial, Hospitality and Green Building.

 

 

Julia

Julia

Julia has a Ba (hons)interior architecture and design, with 5 years experience. She likes to combine her knowledge with scientific data and create functional spaces that work around the client. She is a big fan of creating workplace strategies and likes to add a bit of quirkiness to interiors.When she is not on her bike or out in the nature, she loves making colourful 3d visuals. She is assisting Koubou interiors on their interior design projects creating drawings, planning and Dealing with customers. She also has experience in project management, procurement, manufacture liaison and fit out.

Julia is currently working with Koubou Interiors part time, sharing her own knowledge and expertise with the team and on our projects.

Sam - Koubou Interiors

Sam

With a background that includes advertising, office administration and customer liaison. Her history includes the multicultural life of South Africa.

Sam has to multitask. Apart from her role with the administration she supports the Design team with research, sourcing and procurement.

Hannah Liversidge - Koubou Interiors

Hannah

Hannah provides our social media and marketing support within the business, helping us share our voice with new and current customers on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, as well as finding new exciting ways to connect with our clientele and share our brand with potential new customers.

We Plan & Consult

Feasibility studies including initial site appraisals and development of the Design brief.
Measured site surveys and full spatial planning.
Liaison with local authority planning  departments.
Construction  co-ordination with other consultants and specialists.
Advise on the Client’s duties under the CDM Regulations.

We also offer consultations to clients who want a helping hand in their renovation project, with items such as colour, space, storage and other factors in the design process. These consultations are perfect for clients who wish to handle the project themselves, but need a little support in terms of the design stage.

Design and Decorate

Interior Architecture and Design; refurbishment and extension of existing buildings and new builds.

Presentation boards with samples of materials and finishes.
Interior architecture drawings, general arrangement plans, bathroom, kitchen and bespoke joinery designs.

Monitoring of cost plans, construction and delivery schedules,
On site co- ordination of sub-contractors and other consultants
Ongoing quality monitoring.
Project co-ordination to include site meetings, liaising with contractors.
Procurement of fixtures, fittings and equipment and management of installation.

Koubou provide high quality stylish contract furniture manufactured to exacting standard in the UK.
We combine the best in modern and cutting edge design with old fashioned service.

Why we are proud members of the BIID:

Gilly is a proud member of the British Institute for Interior Designers, and is currently on the Council of Directors as the CPD Director, this means she oversees the Institute’s CPD programme of seminars, lectures and tours in addition to the expansion of its CPD Providers Directory.

The British Institute of Interior Design adopts the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), definition of an interior designer. The IFI, the international federating body for interior design representing 270,000 designers in 110 countries, does not differentiate between Interior Architects and Interior Designers. Their definition is:

Qualified by education, experience and applied skills, the professional Interior Architect/Designer accepts the following responsibilities: Identify, research and creatively solve problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; Perform services relating to interior spaces including programming, design analysis, space planning, aesthetics and inspection of work on site, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building regulations, equipment, materials and furnishings; Prepare schematics, drawings and documents relating to the design of interior space, in order to enhance the quality of life and protect the health, safety, welfare and environment of the public.

The BIID has translated this definition to a rigorous professional standard that underpins BIID Registered Interior Designer®. This means that in order to become registered, designers must:

  • Have 6 years of education and work experience
  • Hold current professional indemnity insurance
  • Provide 2 professional references
  • Complete a face to face Registration Assessment where extensive professional practice knowledge must be evidenced through presentation of a completed design project

Once a designer has become a BIID Registered Interior Designer® they must adhere to the BIID’s Code of Conduct and annual Continuing Professional Development requirement to remain registered. In addition to being able to describe themselves as a ‘BIID Registered Interior Designer®’ individuals will also be able to use the post nominal RegID after their name. The title is also a registered trademark and as such use of the logo and post nominal will be strictly controlled.

‘BIID Registered Interior Designer® is a symbol that an individual has met the highest standard of professional competence set by the government recognised institute for the interior design profession.
